Lord, we come before you on behalf of our country to repent of our country’s sin of abortion.

As a child, when I read about the ancient Israelites, I did not understand how they could be so ungrateful, so blind to all You had done for them. One day, You brought them out of slavery, parting the Red Sea to save them from their pursuers. The next, they were grumbling about the food You provided more or less from thin air. And then they built idols to worship in Your place!

And it was not just in the wilderness! They made the same mistakes for generations, in the land of Canaan. Every time things were good, they would slide into idolatry and leave You behind. When in captivity, they would turn back to You, and You would redeem them. But the cycle of apostasy would repeat, as soon as they were once again safe and comfortable.

How stupid they were, how blind to the truth. As a child, I could not relate to this repeated mistake.

As an adult, I see how the same thing happens in my own heart. And on a national level, it could not be more obvious.

Justin Trudeau believes that the right to kill unborn babies is one of Canada’s core values. He will not allow Liberals to vote their conscience against him on this issue. Even our ostensibly prolife Conservative leaders, including Harper and Scheer, have refused to reopen this issue, because it is divisive. These are the men elected to represent us, and they will not stand against the murder of the most innocent among us?

Canada is the only democracy in the world that has no abortion law at all. 70% of Canadians are ignorant of this fact, believing that we do. Surely some kind of law is in place to restrict late term abortions, partial-birth abortions, or sex-selection abortions. But there is no law at all.

Oh, Lord, we repent of our silence, our passivity! Raise up a strong generation to stand for the vulnerable in our society!

The ancient Israelites fell into idolatry and started sacrificing their children to Moloch. We today, have fallen into idolatry. In January, we watched a pregnant Hollywood idol stand on a stage, holding a literal golden idol in her hand, and proudly profess her belief that she had been blessed with success because she had sacrificed a previous unborn child to the god of career and personal fulfillment.

Lord, forgive us for our selfishness and wickedness. Forgive us for our complacency. Give strength to the woman who feels pressured into abortion. Give wisdom to the woman who does this thoughtlessly. Give hope to the woman who is devastated by the regret. Give humility and repentance to the woman who does this proudly, out of sheer disregard for life.

Bring light to this issue, and give our population eyes to see the true horror of it. Lord, make us strong and courageous, and do not let us turn our backs on the women and children who are victimized by this evil industry.

Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God.

    Do not forget the helpless.

Why does the wicked man revile God?

    Why does he say to himself,

    “He won’t call me to account”?

But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;

    you consider their grief and take it in hand.

The victims commit themselves to you;

    you are the helper of the fatherless.

Break the arm of the wicked man;

    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness

    that would not otherwise be found out.

The Lord is King for ever and ever;

    the nations will perish from his land.

You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;

    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,

defending the fatherless and the oppressed,

    so that mere earthly mortals

    will never again strike terror.

Psalm 10:12-18

  1. AMEN! I am so glad you wrote this…this issue troubles me greatly, to the point that I actually fear the repercussions it will have for Canada, the nation I am a part of – especially if we continue to be silent. I believe that the blood of these innocent children “cries from the ground” and the Lord hears it. That is a sobering thought. I was not aware of the Michelle Williams clip but it sums up the issue perfectly. As you expressed it is difficult NOT to see the similarity between these countless abortions and the days of Molech. I repent alongside you on behalf of our country; I ask for God’s forgiveness and mercy and that He would put an end to this sin.

    1. Thank you for praying in repentance with me! How can we ask for blessing while we are silent in the murder of God’s most innocent children? Thank you so much for your prayer and your encouragement. Lord, forgive our nation and strengthen our convictions to stand against this shameful, great sin.
